Emergence
About This Piece

This piece explores my personal transformation throughout college—navigating uncertainty, pressure, and self-discovery. The towering, fragmented figure represents my past self: disjointed, overwhelmed, and struggling to take shape. Its clown-like eyes reflect a time of deep depression, while the suspended hands symbolize the tension between family expectations and personal growth. The glowing ring acts as a portal, marking a shift from stagnation to momentum.

I combined 3D modeling with digital illustration to create emotional weight and presence, placing a smaller, golden figure—my present self—before this haunting past. It’s imperfect, but grounded in resilience. The empty, liminal space reflects how it felt to be the first in my family to navigate college, stepping into a world without a road map.

This work is a visual confrontation with my own evolution—a blend of fear, strength, and forward motion.
